About Confirmation

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
     Through the Sacrament of Baptism
We are initiated into Christ’s holy church.
We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and
given new birth through water and the Spirit.
All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

Through confirmation,
And through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the
covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is
doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy
     church.

You will find these words at the beginning of the Baptismal Covenant rite in the United Methodist Hymnal.  We use this each time a person is baptized and when people stand to formally unite with the church and make a profession of faith.  For youth, we traditionally call this confirmation.  This is the time when youth confirm the vows made on their behalf if they were baptized as infants.  For those not baptized as infants, they too confirm their faith as youth and are baptized with the class.  Our confirmation class is for youth in 8th grade and up.
