Youth Confirmation

                         Youth Confirmation Class 2008                       

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
     Through the Sacrament of Baptism
     We are initiated into Christ’s holy church.
     We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and   
     given new birth through water and the Spirit.
     All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

Through confirmation,
     And through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the  
     covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is
     doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy
     church.

       You will find these words at the beginning of the Baptismal Covenant rite in the United Methodist Hymnal.  We use this each time a person is baptized and when people stand to formally unite with the church and make a profession of faith.  For youth, we traditionally call this confirmation.  This is the time when youth confirm the vows made on their behalf if they were baptized as infants.  For those not baptized as infants, they too confirm their faith as youth and are baptized with the class.
      
       Our confirmation process has two broad goals.  First, we hope to foster a vital relationship between the youth and Jesus Christ.  Secondly, we hope to build friendships among the youth and community with the larger church.  Our process involves the following:
      
     1. Saturday, February 21 from 6 -10 pm, will be the initial 
         gathering where an overview of the confirmation 
         process will be presented and there will be some group
         building experiences. 
     2. Next, there will be a series of six classes exploring God,  
        Jesus Christ, grace and salvation, the church and how we live
        as followers of Jesus Christ.  These classes meet Sunday
        mornings at 10:30 for six weeks and begin February 22.  There
        will be no classes on Sunday, April 5 or April 12.
     3. The class will take part in worship services at a nearby
         synagogue on one Friday.  The date is still to be determined.
     4. Some type of mission project will be performed.
     5. There will be a weekend retreat at Camp Highroad on
         April 17-19.
     6. All those who chose to will be confirmed on Sunday, April 26.

       As with anything, you will get out what you put into the process.  We are aware of many competing claims to everyone’s schedule, but we would ask each family to make a full commitment to being part of the whole process.  If your schedule makes this problematic at this time, you might want to consider doing confirmation next year.
